The Andean Condor is the largest flying bird in the world. They are also an endangered species. In the Chonta Canyon you will be able to observe them in their natural habitat. These majestic birds were held sacred by the Incan people and to this day, continue to play an integral role in the culture and religious beliefs of this ancient civilization. On this tour, you will also observe the different Andean mountain ranges, beautiful snow-capped peaks, and draw-dropping landscapes and valleys.
What You Need To Take:
CUSCO – TARAWASI – CHONTA – CUSCO
Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your Cusco hotel at 8:00 a.m. You will be transported via private car to the village of Limatambo. Here we will stop at the archaeological site of Tarawasi, which was a popular resting point for the Incas. The Tarawasi is a perfect construction made up of polygonal walls and trapezoidal niches.
After visiting Tarawasi, we will continue driving for approximately one hour until we reach the community of Chonta. From Chonta it is about a 60-minute walk to the look-out, which is located on the edge of the Apurimac Canyon (3300 m). From the look-out, you will be able to observe these majestic birds in flight. Many times you will find yourself up close and personal with them as they may fly right over the top of your head.
After lunch, you will be transported back to your Cusco hotel via private car.
