Choquequirao(3.103m/10178ft) is a huge archaeological complex still under cleaning and restoration process located in the surroundings of the Salkantay sacred mountain (6.271m/20569ft) and the Apurimac River canyon. You will enjoy amazing mountain scenery as well as lots of Andean flora and fauna.

Early this morning your tour guide will meet you in the lobby of your Cusco hotel, and you will be privately transported to Cachora, a small village situated on the edge of the Apurimac Valley and then arriving to Capuliyoc. After meeting up with our muleteers and having breakfast, we will begin the trek. The first part of the trek takes us through ondulating terrain where we will have fantastic views of the Apurimac Valley and the distant snow-capped mountain peaks of Padrayoc and Wayne Cachora. We will hike until we reach Chikiska (2100 m); here we will catch our first glimpses of Choquequirao and the roaring Apurimac River, which is the source of the world’s largest river system; here we will have lunch. After lunch we will continue trekking; descending in to Playa Rosalina (1600 m) to set up camp for the night. Here we will relax and enjoy the quiet and serenity of the Apurimac valley; one of the longest valleys in the Andes.
After an early wake-up and a hearty breakfast, we will begin trekking towards Santa Rosa (2200m). We will ascend through the Apurimac Canyon until we reach the river. We will then cross over to the opposite side of the river and continue our ascent, zigzagging up a steep slope to Marampata (2950 m). This is the most difficult part of the trek; however, along the trail you will observe a wide variety of beautiful flora and fauna. You will see bromeliads, orchids and stands of bamboo, as well as, a variety of birds including hummingbirds and, if we’re lucky, condors too. Here we will have lunch and the opportunity to take a well-earned siesta!. In the afternoon, we will continue the ascent to our campsite, which is close to Choquequirao (3000 m) and settle in for the night. Weather-permitting we will enjoy a spectacular sunset over the valley.
After another early wake-up and hearty breakfast, we will begin our trek in to the Inca’s last refuge: Choquequirao or “Gold Crib” (3000 m). This archeological site was a great political and economic center and was used as a hub for commerce and cultural exchange between the coast, the mountains and the jungle. You will be given a guided tour of the site during which you will be shown the most important sectors of the site. You will learn about the Inca culture and the close relationship between Choquequirao and Machu Picchu in regards to the similarities in architectural design and structure.
After the guided tour and some time spent exploring Choquequirao and have lunch, we will return to Marampata (2850 m). We will begin our descent back in to the Apurimac Canyon and reach on to Santa Rosa (2200 m) where we will have dinner and set up camp for the night.
Today we will have another early wake-up and breakfast. After breakfast we will begin the trek back to Capuliyoc (3000 m). Upon our arrival in Capuliyoc, we will have lunch and will then begin the 4-hour journey back to Cusco via private car.
