Meet an enigmatic place in the Cusco region, “Waqra Pukara”

Waqra Pukara is a fortress of pre-Inca and Inca construction. In the pre-Inca era it was a small citadel. For this reason they called it “llaqta pucara” where the qanchi leader and his whole family lived, this place was also used as an astronomical observatory; It also had a sanctuary to the god Tecsi Pachacutec Wiracocha.

According to the studies carried out, this place was built by the Qanchi ethnic group in the Auqarunas period from 1500 to 1000 BC. The current construction is from the Inca period and was carried out in the Inca Wayna Qhapaq period, with the intervention of architects from that government.
It is said that it became a fortress, since in the time of the Auqarunas there was already the need to train warrior men and places to defend the territory conquered by the ethnic group or tribe.

It is built on the top of the mountain, offering visitors a magnificent landscape of mountain ranges that are lost in the horizon.
Stony formations stand out that give depth to the valley of the Apurímac River.

It has a triple jamb cover, this makes its meaning sacred. Thus we can mention the double jamb covers that were for the gods created by man, such as the sun, the moon and the stars.
